Our newly designed website has two purposes. First, to keep our members abreast of club news and forthcoming events. Second, we wish to provide an interative format for our members to contribute. We will be continuously updating the site with pictures and news from past parties and events. Some of our pictures and media are dated and we know the names of participants. In most cases however, we neither know the dates nor names and are seeking membership participation. Also, all members are welcome to contribute pictures, news clips, videos or articles for inclusion. We are dedicated to making this your informative and up-to-date website.

The 2008 Membership Party
will be held September 13th.

This year's theme is:

"LONGHORNS & TALL TALES."

Anyone vaguely familiar with the history of the YO knows that Charlie III was one of the Texas cattlemen responsible for resurrecting the Longhorn breed. When established in 1880, Captain Schreiner stocked the YO Ranch with Longhorns and except for a brief period (1940-57), the Ranch has never been without the breed. Charlie III began rebuilding the stock on the YO in the late 1950s and in 1964, as one of the founders of the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America, became its first president. The first Longhorn registered by the TLBAA was from the YO.

Years prior to establishing the TLBAA Charlie III and other cattlemen from all around the U.S. would gather periodically to swap tales and buy Texas Longhorns. These and other cowboy tales, poems, songs and ballards are all part of Texas Folklore. In an effort to re-enact some of their heritage, in 1966 Charlie III and other ranchers organized a Longhorn drive from Kerrville to Dodge City. A decade later, to celebrate the nation's bicentennial, another drive was staged from San Antonio to Lubbock. At campsites along the way, the cowboys would relive some of those old tales, poems and songs and create many more of their own.

The YO Social Club (YOSC) was established in 1980 and is currently operating as a 501 (c)(3) corporation. The primary purpose of the organization is the preservation of Texas Hill Country Heritage. The YOSC's activities are managed and executed through its voluntary Board of Directors and various other volunteers. The main benefit received by YOSC members is the privlege of attending of an annual event held at the historic YO Ranch in Mountain Home, Texas. The theme of each year's event is distinctly different with respect to decor, entertainment, food and refreshments. The unifying element is that each event is definitely a tribute to our
western heritage.

In 1980 Charles Schreiner III (Charlie III), grandson of the ranch founder Captain Charles Schreiner, decided to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the YO Ranch. He invited a few hundred of this closest friends to attend a party at YO Ranch to celebrate and acknowledge the importance of the Texas Hill Country. The first party was in May. Not only did everyone have a great time, but it snowed! The party was such a hit and topic of conversation that Charlie III decided it should become an annual social event - now known as the YO Social Club.
